About this place
Nishinoko is a lake on the southeast shore of Lake Biwa in Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture. It has the largest area of the existing inner lakes of Lake Biwa. It was designated a bird and wildlife protection area on November 1, 2006, and on October 30, 2008, it was added to the Ramsar Convention wetland registration area of Lake Biwa. Nishinoko is the part that remained as water when the Onakanoko reclaimed land was created. The inflowing rivers are the Azuchi River, Yamamoto River, Jasuna River and Kurohashi River, and it flows into Lake Biwa via the Chomeiji River.
