About this place
Karakoro Kobo (KARAKORO Art Studio) is a craft hall in the former Bank of Japan Matsue Branch building at 43 Tonomachi, Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. It opened in April 2000. "Karakoro" was named after an essay in which Lafcadio Hearn, who lived in Matsue, spoke of how deeply he was drawn to the sound made when people crossed Matsue Ohashi Bridge, then a wooden bridge, in 1890 (Meiji 23) wearing geta.
