About this place
Shiomi Nawate is a street in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. A Matsue City Traditional Scenic Designated District. Shiomi Nawate is a street of about 500 meters along the moat on the north side of Matsue Castle, from Meimeian to the former residence of Lafcadio Hearn, and is one of the roads made when the castle town was developed at the time Matsue Castle was built. By legal route name, it is designated as part of Principal Local Road Matsue-Kashima-Mihonoseki Line. It is now a two-lane paved road, but long ago it was a narrow nawate path just wide enough for palanquins and carts to pass.
