About this place
Ashikaga City Museum of Art is an art museum in Dori 2-chome, in the center of Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture. It opened in April 1994 as part of Ashikaga's redevelopment project. As an art museum built together with housing, it is rare even in Japan. It focuses on special exhibitions and sometimes holds exhibitions co-sponsored with the Yomiuri Shimbun and others. Curator Ejiri Kiyoshi (deputy director) was also chosen for the 2008 "Biren-kyo Grand Prize" (Japan Art Museum Council), awarded to curators who plan outstanding exhibitions.
