About this place
Kanmangafuchi, also written with other characters and read Ganmangafuchi, is a small gorge in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture. It refers to the area along the Daiya River that includes the precinct of Jiunji and the Bake Jizo statues. It is located in Takumicho, Nikko, and Nikko. The opposite bank is the Nikko Botanical Garden, and it is sometimes described as "behind the Nikko Botanical Garden." It is a landform shaped by lava from Mount Nantai carved out by the flow of the Daiya River. The rapid current of the Daiya River strikes the giant boulders (andesite) of the riverbed, giving a view of the contrasting natural beauty of black rock and white spray.
