A thousand years of casting; tea masters ranked its kettles second only to Ashiya in the west.
About this place
Tenmyo Imono is cast metalware made in Sano Tenmyo (Sano, Tochigi Prefecture) in Shimotsuke Province, or cast by the casters of Sano. Its tea kettles were praised together with the Ashiya kettles of Fukuoka Prefecture in the saying "Ashiya in the west, Tenmyo in the east." It is sometimes also written with a different character for "myo." There are various theories about when Tenmyo Imono began and its origins.
