About this place
Ai no Yakata is a museum on indigo in Aizumicho, Itano District, Tokushima Prefecture. It is the history museum of Aizumi. Selected as one of the Tokushima 88 Views. Designated an Awa History and Culture Road. In 1987 (Showa 62), Okumura Takeo, the 11th head of the family, donated to Aizumi the residence of the former Okumura family, great indigo merchants, and it opened as Ai no Yakata in 1996 (Heisei 8). In 2007 (Heisei 19), the current Emperor and Empress (then Crown Prince and Crown Princess) visited and tried indigo dyeing. Okumura family documents, folk materials on indigo and more are exhibited.
