About this place
Tengu Hisa was a puppet maker known for making wooden puppets (deko) of Awa Province (now Tokushima Prefecture). There were up to three generations. Many of Tengu Hisa's materials are now held in the Tokushima City Tengu Hisa Museum. Yoshioka Hisakichi (July 1, 1858 (May 21, 5th year of Ansei) - December 20, 1943 (Showa 18)) was born the third son of Kasai Iwazo of Nakamura, Myodo District, Awa Province (now Kokufucho, Tokushima). At 16 he became an apprentice of the puppet maker Wakamatsuya Tomigoro.
