About this place
Inukai Rural Stage is an outdoor stage for puppet theater in the grounds of Gooh Shrine in Yaya, Hatacho, Tokushima, Tokushima Prefecture. An Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. One of the Tokushima 88 Views. Built in 1873 (Meiji 6), it is characterized by retaining in a state close to the original the old mechanisms (karakuri) that change the stage according to the story. Ningyo joruri is performed there every autumn. While most of the rural stages made across the country were stages for Kabuki, the rural stages made in Tokushima Prefecture were for ningyo joruri.
