Awa Shijira-ori is cotton fabric produced in Tokushima, Tokushima Prefecture. Selected as a Tokushima Citizens' Heritage. A Tokushima Prefecture Designated Intangible Cultural Property. A traditional craft designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. 1866 (2nd year of Keio) - The predecessor of Awa Shijira-ori was a cotton fabric called "Tatae-ori," which Kaifu Hana of Ataka Village, Myodo District, Awa Province (now Ataka, Tokushima) improved and originated. It is characterized by using differences in warp tension to produce a unique unevenness called "shibo."
