About this place
Kanayamachi is a place name in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. Close to the central urban area, it once flourished as the centre of the Takaoka copperware industry. The postal code is 933-0841. In 1609 Maeda Toshinaga, lord of the Kaga domain, built Takaoka Castle and founded the town of Takaoka. To promote the town's prosperity, in 1611 he had Kanamori Yaemon and seven other casters move from Nishi-Kanaya Village in Tonami District (now Nishi-Kanaya, Tode, Takaoka) to the present Kanayamachi, which became the centre of the Takaoka copperware industry.
