About this place
The Takaoka Mikuruma-yama Festival is the spring grand festival of Takaoka Sekino Shrine in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, held every year on 1 May. It is the oldest and most historic float (hikiyama) festival in Toyama Prefecture, in which seven floats called Mikuruma-yama parade through the old town of Takaoka to elegant festival music. A preliminary evening festival is held on 30 April. It is designated both an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property (seven Mikuruma-yama floats) and an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. It is also inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
