Once the stronghold of the Etchu Ikko uprising; twenty-three buildings survive, two of them National Treasures since 2022.
About this place
Shokoji is a Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-school Buddhist temple in Furukokufu, Fushiki, Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. Its mountain name is Unryuzan. The principal image is Amida Nyorai. It is known for its many cultural properties, including two buildings designated National Treasures and ten Important Cultural Properties. Local people affectionately call it "Furukohan." On 24 April 2015 it was certified as a Japan Heritage site as a component of "Takaoka, the City Where the Townspeople's Culture Connected to the Kaga Maeda Family Blossoms: People, Skills, Spirit."
