About this place
Takaoka lacquerware is lacquerware produced in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. It is a traditional craft designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. It is said to have begun when Maeda Toshinaga, lord of the Kaga Domain, built Takaoka Castle in the Keicho era at the beginning of the Edo period and had military equipment, chests, meal trays and other daily goods made.
