Overview
Bamboo from the Koyasan slopes joined through dozens of stages - treated less as tackle than as lacquerwork.
About this place
Kishu hera rods are bamboo craft products made mainly in the area of present-day Hashimoto, once a corner of Ito District, Wakayama Prefecture (Kishu), and also in Kudoyama, Ito District; they are hera-buna rods (Japanese-style rods dedicated to hera-buna (Japanese crucian carp) fishing). Known as a regional brand of Wakayama Prefecture, the production area centred on Hashimoto is called "Kishu Hera Rod no Sato." In 2013 it was designated a Traditional Craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
