About this place
Bunshokan is the nickname of the facility that restores and makes use of the nationally designated Important Cultural Property 'Former Yamagata Prefectural Office and Prefectural Assembly Hall' in the centre of Yamagata, Yamagata Prefecture. Its formal name is 'Yamagata Prefectural Museum of Local History'. It is lit up from sunset to 9:30 p.m. The first Yamagata Prefectural Office and Prefectural Assembly Hall were destroyed by the Great Fire of Kita Yamagata in May 1911 (Meiji 44).
