About this place
Churenji is a temple of the Shingon sect, Chizan school (Shingi Shingon branch), in Oami, Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture. After the war it was for a time independent as the head temple of the Shingi Shingon Yudonosan school. Its mountain name is Yudonosan. The principal image is Dainichi Nyorai. The temple is said to have been founded in 833 (Tencho 13) by Kukai (Kobo Daishi) and is the newest of the four temples of the Yudonosan school.
