About this place
The Hanagasa Festival is a Japanese festival in which people dance and parade through the streets to the "Hanagasa Ondo," holding hanagasa, sedge hats decorated with red flowers. It is held in several places, including in Yamagata Prefecture, and the best known is the "Yamagata Hanagasa Festival," held in Yamagata every August. The three great festivals of Tohoku, which have been held since before the war, together with the Yamagata Hanagasa Festival, which began and spread after the war, are sometimes called the Four Great Festivals of Tohoku.
