About this place
Maiko Chaya Hinagura Garo Somaro is a tourist facility in Sakata, Yamagata Prefecture. It is operated by Hirata Farm, headquartered in Sakata. It opened in 2000 after the renovation of the ryotei restaurant 'Somaya', built and opened in 1808. The wooden main building was built just after the previous one was destroyed by fire in the Shonai earthquake. It was registered as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property in November 1996. After Somaya closed, the local Hirata Farm bought it to protect Sakata's ryotei culture, leading to its opening.
