About this place
Chidoriya is the shop name used by Japanese-confectionery shops, and the group of confectionery makers that grew out of them, based in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, with roots in Saga Prefecture. The Harada family, retainers of the Ryuzoji clan who ruled northern Kyushu, followed Ryuzoji Masaie, the last head of the Ryuzoji clan, into retirement and moved in 1590 (Tensho 18) to Omata-go (now Kubota-cho, Saga, Saga Prefecture), where they began making sake manju and other sweets as side work to make a living.
