About this place
Chiyonosono Shuzo Co., Ltd. is a liquor-brewing company with its head office in Yamaga, Kumamoto Prefecture. It makes akazake, one of the few makers in Kumamoto to do so. Founded in 1896 (Meiji 29), it is the oldest sake brewery in Yamaga. Honda Kikuhachi ran a rice-dealing business, including breeding improved rice varieties, and in September 1896 (Meiji 29) started the brewery Yaoya. In 1934 (Showa 9) the first Honda Katsutaro became his successor.
