Tsumugi from Shinshu. A collective name for the silk textiles woven in Ueda, Matsumoto, Iida, Ina and elsewhere.
About this place
Shinshu tsumugi is a fabric produced throughout Nagano Prefecture, designated a traditional craft by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (then the Ministry of International Trade and Industry) on February 17, 1975. Depending on the production area, it is called “Matsumoto tsumugi,” “Ueda tsumugi,” “Iida tsumugi,” “Ina tsumugi,” “Ariake tsumugi (Azumino tsumugi),” “Yamamayu tsumugi,” “Ashi tsumugi,” “Shike tsumugi” and so on, and these are collectively called “Shinshu tsumugi.” The production-area cooperative is the Nagano Prefecture Textile Industry Cooperative.
