Karuizawa is a place name found mainly in the Saku area of the Toshin region of Nagano Prefecture. It is a place name branded as a summer retreat and villa area; in the narrow sense it refers to the Kyu-Karuizawa district of Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku District, Nagano Prefecture (see also the Kyu-Karuizawa Main Street) or to the whole of Karuizawa Town, and in a broad sense it includes surrounding areas such as the neighboring Miyota Town (Nishi-Karuizawa), Kita-Karuizawa in Naganohara Town, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture, Tsumagoi Village, Agatsuma District (Oku-Karuizawa) and Annaka City (Higashi-Karuizawa).
