About this place
Takase Dam is a dam built in the upper reaches of the Takase River, in the Shinano River system, a first-class river, in Omachi, Nagano Prefecture. It is a power-generation dam managed by TEPCO Renewable Power, and is the second highest in Japan after Kurobe Dam (Kurobe River) in Toyama Prefecture. It is a rockfill dam 176 m high, forming the upper regulating reservoir of the Shin-Takasegawa Power Station, a pumped-storage hydroelectric power station, and it hosts one of Japan's leading large hydroelectric plants, generating up to 1,280,000 kilowatts (kW) between it and the lower regulating reservoir, Nanakura Dam.
