Overview
Yatsushika Shuzo in Kokonoe. It makes both sake and shochu.
About this place
Yatsushika Shuzo Co., Ltd. is an alcoholic beverage manufacturing company with its head office in Kokonoemachi, Kusu District, Oita Prefecture. It was founded in 1864 (1st year of Genji) by the first head, Aso Toko, as Funakoya. The brewing storehouse of that time still remains. This storehouse has the oldest surviving plaster relief (kote-e) in Kyushu and the shop name painted on it. However, because he spent his own money on the Migita Irrigation Channel (farmland water irrigation works) begun in 1870 (Meiji 3), his property ran out and he temporarily gave up the brewing rights.
