Overview
Rikyugura in Sakai. A sake brewery in the town of the tea ceremony.
About this place
Rikyu Kura Limited Company is a sake brewer with its head office in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture. Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, was once a famous sake-producing area, with nearly 100 breweries in the Meiji period, but it declined due to shortages of water and land, the effects of the Great Osaka Air Raid and other reasons. In 1971 (Showa 46) the last brewer merged with a Nada company, and sake brewing in the city ceased thereafter. In the city there was a movement, centered on former presidents of sake brewing companies and others, to revive sake brewing.
