About this place
Sekishu Kameyama ware is pottery fired in Hamada, Shimane Prefecture. Sasaki Kenjo trained for 25 years at the Toki kiln of Agano ware in Fukuoka Prefecture and opened his kiln in Hamada, Shimane Prefecture, in 1971. It was named Sekishu Kameyama ware after Hamada Castle (Kameyama Castle). It is a separate kiln from the Kameyama ware of Nagasaki and Tamba. It uses a wide variety of glazes, including shinsha (copper red), yakishime (unglazed), akanagashi (red flow), aonagashi (blue flow), black glaze, white glaze and irabo glaze. A representative technique is kakiotoshi (scraping).
