About this place
Tabata Shuzo Co., Ltd. is a sake brewery in Wakayama, Wakayama Prefecture, that makes and sells sake. Founded in 1851 (4th year of Kaei). Its main brands are "Rashomon" and "Daitoichi"; "Rashomon" was registered as a trademark because the fifth president, Tabata Kaoru, was impressed by Kurosawa Akira's film Rashomon, which he saw during the postwar reconstruction period, and wished that one day they too would make sake that would be accepted worldwide. It also at one time had a brewery in the Nada Gogo of Kobe.
