About this place

Akagami Shrine is a shrine in Oga, Akita. It is generally known as Akagami Shrine Goshado. The five buildings of the Goshado are designated Important Cultural Properties (structures) of Japan. Its former shrine rank was village-district shrine (gosha). There is a legend that in 72 (Keiko 2) (or, according to some, 80 (Keiko 10) or 81 (Keiko 11)), Emperor Wu of Han, who called himself Akagami (the Red God), descended from the sky.
