About this place

Tsurugi Shrine is a shrine in Oda, Echizen, Nyu District, Fukui. It is an Engishiki-listed shrine and the Ninomiya of Echizen Province. Its former shrine rank was Kokuhei Shosha, and it is now a Beppyo Shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines. It is also known as "Oda Myojin". Its principal deity is Susanoo no Mikoto, with Kehi Okami and Prince Oshikuma enshrined as associated deities. According to the shrine's tradition, the sword that serves as the sacred object was a divine sword made by Prince Inishikiirihiko no Mikoto, son of Emperor Suinin; during the regency of Empress Jingu, Prince Oshikuma, son of Emperor Chuai, received it, and he used it to subdue rebels in Koshi Province (Koshi no Kuni) and restore peace safely.
