About this place
Shibata Shrine is a shrine in Fukui, Fukui. It enshrines the Sengoku-period warrior Shibata Katsuie as its principal deity, with his wife Oichi enshrined as an associated deity. The grounds contain the Sanshimai Shrine, which enshrines Oichi's three daughters. The site is said to be the former main enclosure of Kitanosho Castle, Katsuie's residence. The period of its creation is unknown, but there is a stone shrine to Katsuie and Oichi, and it has been protected as a shrine within Fukui Castle, which was built on the site of Kitanosho Castle.
