About this place
Hida Sojasha is a shrine in Takayama, Gifu. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It is the sojasha of Hida Province. It enshrines the eight deities listed in the Engishiki register of deities (three in Ono District, five in Araki District) and ten shrines recorded in the national histories. Each year on May 4 and 5, the annual festival features a procession of a thousand people and a parent-and-child lion dance performed by pairs (an acrobatic-like dance by 22 people). Ohashi no Mikoto was the first Hida kuni-no-miyatsuko, a descendant of Ame no Hoakari no Mikoto.
