About this place
Myozenji is a temple of the Shinshu Otani-ha in the Ogimachi settlement of Shirakawa Village, Ono District, Gifu. Its mountain name is Matsubarayama. It is known as a temple in the gassho-zukuri style. When Komyozan Hongakuji in Shirakawa Village changed from the Shinshu Otani-ha to the Hongwanji-ha in the 8th year of Enpo (1680), the head temple of the Otani-ha took Hongakuji's Amida Nyorai and name inscription and gave them to the Otani-ha followers in the village. In the 1st year of Genbun (1736), when Gensai founded an Otani-ha temple, this name inscription and principal image were granted to it and became the temple's principal image.
