Overview
If Ise Jingu guards the daylight of Japan, this shrine is said to guard its night. It is made up of two halls, the Kami-no-miya and the Hishizumi-no-miya.
About this place
Hinomisaki Shrine is a shrine at Hinomisaki, Izumo, Shimane. Its popular name is Misaki-san. It is revered as the 'ancestral deity' of Izumo Taisha. Twelve shrine buildings and others are designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan. The shrine has two parts, upper and lower; the upper shrine is called Kami no Miya, and the lower shrine is called Hishizumi no Miya, and the two together are called Hinomisaki Shrine (Hinomisaki Daijingu).
