About this place
Oo Shrine (Oo-jinja or O-jinja) is a shrine in Itako, Ibaraki. Its former shrine rank was village-district shrine (gosha). Takemikazuchi no Ogami The writing differs, but it is the same as the deity of Kashima Jingu. According to the shrine's tradition, it was enshrined as a tutelary deity when the Ofu people (Ofu: the Oo clan) migrated from Yamato to Hitachi. The Oo Tumulus Group remains around the grounds and is said to be the okutsuki (tombs) of the Ofu clan. There are two main theories about the shrine's founding date. It has stood in this place since ancient times.
