Overview
With Kashima and Katori, one of the three shrines of the eastern provinces. In the Edo period it was common to visit all three after a pilgrimage to Ise.
About this place
Ikisu Shrine is a shrine in Ikisu, Kamisu, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is a shrine listed in the national histories (Kokushi Genzaisha), and its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. Together with Kashima Shrine in Kashima, Ibaraki Prefecture, and Katori Shrine in Katori, Chiba Prefecture, it is one of the Three Shrines of the Eastern Provinces. Kunado no Kami (also called Funado no Kami) According to the shrine's tradition, this deity guided the way to the eastern provinces during the pacification of the Central Land of Reed Plains by the deities of Kashima and Katori. Amenotorifune no Mikoto The Kojiki records that he went to pacify the Central Land of Reed Plains as a companion deity of Takemikazuchi. A collective name for the three deities Uwatsutsunoo, Nakatsutsunoo and Sokotsutsunoo.
