About this place
Haragosha Shrine (Haragosha-jinja) is a shrine in Kurokamicho, Kagoshima, Kagoshima Prefecture. Its former shrine rank was village shrine (sonsha). It is also written "Haragosha Shrine" with other characters. Located on the eastern side of the active volcano Sakurajima, its torii gate is known for being buried up to its top by volcanic rocks ejected in the Taisho eruption of Sakurajima in 1914 (Taisho 3). Called the "Kurokami Buried Torii," it is designated a Kagoshima Prefecture Natural Monument.
