About this place
Yaku Shrine is a shrine in Yakushima Town, Kumage District, Kagoshima Prefecture (Yakushima). It is a shrine listed in the Engishiki, and its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It is the Ichinomiya of Tane Province. It is the southernmost of the shrines recorded in the Engishiki register of deity names. It is now read "Yaku," but was formerly read "Masukuhi" or "Sukuhi." Its old names were "Sukuhi no Miya" and "Ippon Hoju Daigongen." Amatsuhiko Hikohohodemi no Mikoto The "Yamasachihiko" who appears in the myth of Umisachi and Yamasachi.
