About this place
Yaku Shrine is a shrine on Yakushima (Yakushima, Kumage District, Kagoshima Prefecture). It is a shrine listed in the Engishiki, and its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It is the Ichinomiya of Tane Province. It is the southernmost of the shrines listed in the Engishiki register of shrine names. Today it is read 'Yaku', but in the past it was read 'Masukui' or 'Sukui'. Its former names are 'Sukui no Miya' and 'Ippon Hoju Daigongen'. Amatsuhiko Hikohohodemi no Mikoto He is 'Yamasachihiko' in the myth of Umisachi and Yamasachi.
