About this place
Arata Hachimangu is a shrine in Shimo-Arata 2-chome, Kagoshima, Kagoshima Prefecture. It was formerly regarded as the chief shrine of Kagoshima. It enshrines Emperor Ojin, Empress Jingu and Tamayorihime no Mikoto. It has long been believed to give protection from vipers, and sand from beneath the shrine building is used as an amulet. It is also strongly venerated for education, shipping and safe childbirth.
