About this place
Kosa Shrine is a shrine located in Kosa, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture. It is the Second Shrine of Higo Province, and its former shrine rank was village shrine. Together with Aso Shrine (Aso), Konoura Shrine (Uki) and Kengun Shrine (Higashi Ward, Kumamoto), it is called one of the Four Aso Shrines. It is the guardian deity of southern Higo. It was originally called Kaburazaki-gu, but is said to have been renamed Kosa-gu because armor (kacchu) was dedicated there after Empress Jingu's triumphant return.
