About this place
Kumata Shrine is a shrine in Hiranomiyamachi, Hirano Ward, Osaka. Its former shrine rank was fu-rank shrine (Fu-sha). It is called 'Omiya-san' and revered as the chief guardian shrine of the old town of Hirano (Hirano-go), a historic city that has existed since the Asuka period. The Hirano-go Summer Festival (Kumata Festival), the second largest summer festival in Osaka, is held every year from July 11 to 14. The present shrine name derives from Kumata-no-sho, and it was formerly called Kumano Gongensha and Hirano Kumano Sansho Gongen.
