About this place
Shichiri no Watashi was the former official route by sea from Miya-juku (Atsuta Ward, Nagoya, Aichi) to Kuwana-juku (Kuwana, Mie) on the Tokaido's 53 Stations. The name 'Shichiri no Watashi' is often used to refer only to the ferry landing on the Miya-juku side or the Kuwana-juku side. Even in the Edo period it was possible to travel by land, but the purpose of deliberately using the sea route, which cost a ferry fare and carried the risk of shipwreck, was to shorten the travel time.
