About this place
Magose Pass is a pass on the border between Kihoku and Owase, Kitamuro District, Mie. Its elevation varies by source and is given as 325 m, 332 m, 340 m or 350 m. It crosses the western part of Mount Tengukura. About 2 km of the pass's stone-paved road remains. The old road, one and a half ken wide, continues through a forest of standing cedar and cypress. At the top of the pass are the remains of a teahouse depicted in the Saikoku 33 Pilgrimage Illustrated Guide. It is part of the Kumano Kodo Iseji, and the sections before and after the pass, where mossy stone paving continues, are registered as a World Heritage site.
