About this place
Akame 48 Falls is the collective name for a series of step-like waterfalls scattered over about 4 km of the Takigawa gorge, a tributary of the Uda River, flowing through Akamecho, Nabari, Mie. It is one of the many groups of '48 Falls' that exist throughout Japan. The valley is called the Akame 48 Falls Gorge. The Muro volcanic rock, made of rhyolitic welded tuff, developed vertical joints (such as columnar joints) when it cooled, creating many steps in the riverbed.
