About this place
Sarutahiko Shrine is a shrine near the Naiku of Ise Jingu in Ise, Mie. It enshrines Sarutahiko Okami and his descendant Ota no Mikoto. Its former shrine rank was non-ranked shrine (not meaning it had no rank, but a rank called "mukakusha"), and after World War II it became a Beppyo Shrine. According to Japanese mythology, Sarutahiko no Kami, after finishing guiding Ninigi's descent from heaven, settled upstream of the Isuzu River in Ise. According to the Yamatohime no Mikoto Seiki, his descendant Ota no Mikoto offered the land upstream of the Isuzu River to Yamatohime no Mikoto as a place to enshrine Amaterasu Omikami.
