An unusual hall that faces north. Visiting it together with Zenkoji is a custom of long standing.
About this place
Kitamuki Kannon is a Tendai sect temple at Bessho Onsen in Ueda, Nagano. The neighboring Tendai sect Joraku-ji is its head temple, and Joraku-ji owns and manages it as part of its complex. Mantra of the principal image: On bazara tarama kiriku sowaka Goeika: Ikubaku no hito no kokoro wo sumasuran, Kitamukiyama no mine no matsukaze (the wind in the pines on the peak of Mount Kitamuki will surely clear the hearts of many people) According to the temple's tradition, it was founded together with Joraku-ji in 825 (Tencho 2) in the early Heian period by Ennin (Jikaku Daishi). A legend of fire also remains from the 9th century.
