The only five-storey pagoda on Sado, said to be modelled on the pagoda at Nikko Tosho-gu.
About this place
Myosenji is a Nichiren sect temple in Abutsubo, Sado, Niigata. It is one of the three head temples of the Nichiren sect on Sado, founded by Abutsubo Nittoku, a disciple of Nichiren, who made his own house a temple. Its mountain name is Rengeozan. The principal image is Shakyamuni Nyorai. According to tradition, it was founded in 1221 (Jokyu 3). 1326 (Karyaku 1) - Moved to Takeda. 1589 (Tensho 17) - Moved to its present site (the site of Zatta Castle). The present head priest is the 47th, Seki Nichido (who came from Enjoji in Sado). Of the Tsushi lineage.
