About this place
Ohara Hachimangu is a shrine in Hita, Oita Prefecture. It is one of the largest Hachimangu in the city and is popularly called Ohara Shrine. It is also written with other characters for Ohara. Homutawake no Mikoto Ootarashihime no Mikoto The first record of a Hachiman shrine in Hita is in 680 (Hakuho 9, reign of Emperor Tenmu), when a deity who named himself the god residing at the Usa hawk's nest shrine appeared at Iwamatsumine in Yuge Village (Kanaba, Mabaru, Amagasemachi, Hita), and a shrine (Kurakatao no Miya) was built to enshrine him.
