About this place
Yuga Shrine Hongu is a shrine on Mount Yuga in Kojima, in the southern part of Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It is an independent shrine not under the jurisdiction of the Association of Shinto Shrines. Mount Yuga is said to have been a site of rock-seat (iwakura) worship since ancient times. In 733 (Tenpyo 5), Gyoki enshrined an Eleven-Faced Kannon here, and it is said to have become a mountain of Shinto-Buddhist syncretism called Yuga Daigongen (Yuga Daigongen), where shrine and temple were one.
